The electrohydrodynamic force distribution in surface AC dielectric barrier discharge actuators: do streamers dictate the ionic wind profiles?

Abstract We show that the spatio-temporal electrohydrodynamic (EHD) force production in surface alternative current-dielectric barrier discharge (AC-DBD) actuators is strongly influenced by both streamer regime during positive phase and micro-discharge negative phase. Focusing on spatial EHD profiles, we demonstrate ionic wind distribution can only be explained contribution of regime. The location maximum found to directly linked with elongation streamers at several millimeters from exposed electrode. In phases AC-DBD operation, residual volumetric charges once again formation afterburn, result a variety zones which, when time-averaged one AC period, contribute generation experimentally observed induced thin wall jet. Through thorough elaboration our numerical results, provide an illustrative explanation evolution, showcase importance retrieve correct representation profiles compared experiments.
